To commemorate 1 million of their E100 MP3 players being sold, iriver has decided to upgrade them by releasing what they call the E100 Season 2.  Basically, the Season 2 doesn’t add that many new upgrades, but each mp3 player is now offered in more colors and more storage capacities.  They all come in different color variations of white, orange, and silver.  Also, they are available in 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB models.  Otherwise, expect features and format support to be essentially the same.  One thing I imagine to be different is the current pricing.  Since these models would be a little more advanced, pricing would probably go up a little bit.  Read [iriver] Via [Akihabara News] Keep up with the latest gadget goodness! China’s QiJi feels your pain, which is where the company’s surprisingly okay-looking i6 comes into play: the handset supports both Android and Windows Mobile, although you can’t dual-boot — you’ve got to choose one and run with it until you decide to install the other. by Donald Melanson, posted Nov 28th 2008 at 12:34PMWe’ve already heard that Microsoft plans to make use of GPU acceleration in Windows 7, but it looks like the company is also going to be doing its part for the GPU-less out there, with the OS’s new so-called WARP system promising to allow for DirectX 10 acceleration using nothing more than a plain old CPU. Among other things, that’s apparently being done to avoid a recurrence of the Vista-capable debacle that happened last time around, when some systems that were said to be capable of running the OS were, in fact, anything but. According to Microsoft, WARP (or Windows Advanced Rasterization Platform) will work with as little as an 800MHz CPU, although it says it’ll work better on multi-core processors with SSE 4.1. A recent update in the Microsoft developer network (MSDN) mentions WARP10, a new feature that stands for Windows Advanced Rasterization Platform. It also sounds like a trekky reference to a theoretical maximum speed… Anyway, WARP is a software implementation of DirectX 10 and 10.1 that is supposedly fast enough to replace basic (Intel integrated) graphics processors. Most computers come with some form of graphics-acceleration, but this means that even non-accelerated platforms will be able to run Vista’s Aero interface and entry-level graphics applications In the past, Microsoft software implementation of DirectX was only used as a very slow “reference” for developers, meaning: “if your hardware produces something that’s different from the reference, you have a bug”. Two years after the EVA8000 Digital Entertainer HD, the EVA9000 model adds support for a 3.5-inch SATA internal HDD, 802.11n and more to its predecessor’s lengthy list of features. Ever since Microsoft acquired Danger, it was always rumored that Microsoft might, one day, come out with a phone based off of the Zune.  What makes this rumor different than previous ones is that CNBC claims that a good Microsoft source is reporting that their newest project, named the Pink, is actually a Zune phone.  Danger, if you don’t know, was the manufacturer of the Sidekick, so they have some good experience in creating popular phones.  Not much is known about this purported phone yet, but the source claims that a prototype could be ready in time for CES 2009, or the phone might be on display at the 3GSM conference.  Either way, Microsoft wants to make this phone good enough so that it can attract potential iPhone buyers.  Ever since the iPhone was released into the public, it has been one of the most sought after phones on the market.  It will definitely be interesting to see if Microsoft does come out to say anything about this rumor.  I would like to see a Zune phone, but whether it can be good enough to be a serious threat to the iphone remains to be seen.
