While I’m convinced that the universe is far too large of a place to not have tons of other living beings, I think that some of the alien abductions we hear about are nothing more than then result of an over-analytic imagination and/or dreaming. The dreaded Greys have become a household term because of pop culture. And more often than not, it’s the Greys which are doing the abduction. Coincidence?

And while you might not experience an abduction without a imagination gone wild, you can still feel like your sleeping experience is non-terrestrial. The Beam Bed is designed to shoot out an array of light beams from under your sleeping surface. It makes your bed resemble a UFO more closely than a comfortable place to rest your head.

Designed by Ewan Robertson for Lagostudio, this lacquered wood crafted Beam Bed emits a steady glow from the central base of the frame which is divided into beams thanks to borders set along the bed frame. What results is a beautiful light display which turns your boring bedroom into something that resembles an alien landing deck.

The Sun inspired design is both calming and unsettling at the same time. It might take some getting used to, but it’s a truly unique way for changing the entire landscape of your bedroom. No information yet on where or when we can see such a product for sale, but we think a lot of you might be interested.

News has it that AT&T’s Navigator location-based service will be expanding overseas, giving bouquets to AT&T for being the first US carrier that offers international navigation capabilities. Known as the AT&T Navigator Global Edition, this service functions across 20 countries including North America, the U.S. Caribbean, and the majority of countries in Western Europe. It will also run perfectly fine within the boundaries of half a dozen Chinese cities - Beijing, Shanghai, Qingdao, Shenyang, Tianjin, and Qinhuangdao. This comes as no surprise since AT&T is an official sponsor of the US Olympic Team. The AT&T Navigator Global Edition will come with a $19.98 monthly fee and is compatible with the AT&T Tilt, RIM BlackBerry 8800, RIM BlackBerry Curve 8310, RIM blackberry Pearl 8110, Samsung BlackJack II, and the Motorola Q9h.

It seems for Mike Arrington and the 560+ commenters that there is a desire in the market for a web tablet.  Arrington is proposing they build it as a project and bring it to market themselves in a bold bid to build traffic and a product that many seem to seek.

In truth, what they look to build is an inexpensive ($200) ipod touch.  My touch lives in my living room.  I use it to surf the net, play games and be connected whenever I feel like it.  The instant on, quick WiFi and fun operation make it a staple I am not sure I’d be happy living without at this point.

Arrington and his band of rioters want a big screened version.  OK, I can see how that would be fun, but building such a beast at $200 is going to be very difficult.  Another plus/minus is open source.  I don’t want to rain on his parade, but I’ve not been satisfied with open source projects.

What I do think is Apple will be jumping into this market with a student/web tablet.  They’ve the software platform, distribution model and even a store to buy add-ons and content from.  It is all slick and done.  All they need to do is build the hardware.  I see this coming at $599 to $799 range and it doing very, very well.  Perhaps September will bring some interesting things from Apple, really one of the only companies I could see doing this right.

It has been reported that Intel’s Larrabee-based graphics card will be available to developers - either internal or “select”, in my opinion. First hardware is first used internally to validate that every chip part is working, then, the small quantities of boards are split between hardware and software teams to work out the kinks and bring the drivers up to speed. The software (drivers) was likely built using an “emulator”, which is not a fun process. Finally, when things are somewhat in order, it is possible to send boards to external developers.

If you missed it, Larrabee is Intel’s upcoming graphics processor (GPU) that will compete directly with NVIDIA and ATI.

Just how hot do you think that the iphone 3G has gotten? It seems that pent up demand for this smartphone has reflected in insane prices on eBay, with some of the bids already surpassing the magical $1,000 mark. Heck, even in the real world, demand for the iPhone 3G still results in lines forming outside of more notable Apple stores including the one in New York. So far, over 1 million units worldwide has already been sold, and demand remains extremely strong with both AT&T in the U.S. and O2 in the U.K. reporting iPhone 3G shortages. Currently, bids on eBay or the 16GB iPhone has passed the $1,0000 mark with even one bid ending at a ridiculous $2,325, while the smaller capacity 8GB iPhone 3G averages around $800 to $900. There’s a trick to all this - delayed gratification is the keyword, folks.

For those of you that play something besides the plastic guitars for Guitar Hero, Belkin has created a magnetic device to make your gigs run a bit more smoothly.  If you enjoy the ability of switching between guitars a whole lot, without wanting to put your amp on standby, this little connector is worth a try.  It is very similar to the connectors used on MacBooks, the magnetic part that attaches to the laptop.  Which also hopefully means when some drunk manages to pull your cord by tripping over it, it will cause less issues.
