It looks like BlackBerry users will now have one more reason to use and enjoy Flickr. RIM and Flickr have partnered up to offer a new upload tool in the form of a native upload app.

Overall, it seems a simple but effective program. Users can grab it from the BlackBerry mobile startpage, assuming they are running OS 4.2, have at least 65k of free memory and a camera. The upload app allows users to upload images, add any tags before sending them off and even adjust the size of the image. Users who have a built-in GPS can also take advantage of that functionality and geotag their images.

Here’s a survival product combo we never thought of: an LED flashlight that talks you through the basic steps of CPR. It sort of makes sense, at least: high-efficiency LED in an ultra-compact AAA battery-based design that will talk you through an important emergency skill while the world crumbles around you. The whole flashlight measures 4-inches in length and sports push-button on/off and CPR read-off. Images of armageddon and self-taught nurses abound.

We already knew that Chevrolet was testing out a fair bit of Volt hardware in modified Malibus, but the time finally arrived for bigwig Bob Lutz to take a test drive in one such vehicle. As General Motors forges ahead with plans to produce the vehicle and have it on the roads by 2010, Lutz was able to get behind the wheel of an “engineering development vehicle” with the 16-kwh Li-ion battery pack system; after cruising about with nary a drop of gasoline to thank, he semi-intentionally coined the experience “electrifying.” It seems the version he drove wasn’t exactly refined, thus he refrained from commenting (read: blasting) too much about the ins and outs of how it performed. Still, even ‘ole Bob missed the “throaty roar of a [traditional] engine.” We’ll raise our glasses to that.

The good folks at HTC left this little gem (pun totally intended) on our doorstep today, but as cool as it sounds to have one of the world’s great Windows Mobile torchbearers just drop off its hottest new handset to us like it’s an extra large pepperoni and mushroom, it’s a bittersweet gift at best. Why? The Touch Diamond lacks both HSDPA 850 / 1900 and GSM 850 in its current incarnation, leaving it to cling to what 1900MHz EDGE towers it can find. That makes it an untouchable product for all but the hardest-core North Americans who are willing to throw both high-speed data and maximum signal coverage out of the window just to be able to put the pinnacle of WinMo 6.1 engineering in their pocket. It’s been a while since we heard anything about the proposed Anaheim-Las Vegas maglev train. As of Friday, the project is moving forward as part of a transportation bill signed by President Bush that puts aside $45 million for the 300 mile-per-hour train. While the project initially called for a $3- to $5 billion budget, this little chunk of money will get things rolling (or, as the case may be, floating). The train is projected to whisk people from Disneyland to Vegas in under two hours. No word on proposed launches or actual construction, but we assume Disney will get involved with some extra cash at this point.

Ronn Motors from Texas have developed the Scorpion, a supercar that will scoot 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and achieve 40 mpg. The company has built the controversial hydrogen hybrid system (or hydrogen injection, or Water4Gas or HHO system) into what appears to be a true production car. Not only that, the car looks, well, stunning as well. The development and production of this car will validate the functionality of hydrogen hybrids, and could also spur a broader public interest and recognition of the technology.Now let’s just hope that these guys really mean what they say cuz the fuel prices are keeping me away from my local gas station.

Sony’s HT-IS100 feature the same elfin speakers found on 2007’s DAV-I. The 5.1-channel home-theater system includes five speakers that are just 1.7 inches in diameter. Although the unit was announced in the Japanese market recently, they will make an appearance Stateside next month. The new system doesn’t have a built-in disc player, or even a “head unit”; however all of the electronics and amplifiers are consolidated into the system’s subwoofer, so there’s no need for a separate AV receiver. The Sony DAV-IS100 will be available in July for $700.

Philips has released a 22″ 3D monitor that requires no special glasses to enjoy 3D experience. The 22-inch widescreen display is powered by Philips’ exclusive WOWvx technology to provide 3D-like images without requiring users to wear special viewing glasses. The monitor provides 1680 x 1050 WSXGA resolution, 300cd/m2 brightness, 16:10 aspect ratio, 1,000:1 contrast ratio and 5 ms response time.So how does it provide 3D experience without glasses?
The WOWvx uses Philips’ internal 2D-plus-Depth (the 2D image and its depth map) format and combines it with the Declipse format developed especially for autostereoscopic 3D displays such as this one. Declipse provides additional “background” information for a more realistic 3D effect.

No word on pricing, but the display is expected to be available from the fourth quarter of this year.
