Whether you're in the market for a new digital camera, or like me, just dreaming about one, you'll want to stay up on the latest offerings for a variety of reasons.

When film reigned new cameras were introduced more or less every year. Photographers looked for better film emulsions and darkroom supplies and methods to achieve better results. Lens construction was an area that boomed and photographers constantly sought the next generation of lenses hoping they would improve picture quality.

Now, new digital cameras are introduced constantly, some of which are worthy, most of which are slight upgrades to previous models.

I'm excluding DSLRs because these cameras aren't upgraded that frequently and despite their popularity most amateur photographers snap away with a P&S.

You should keep up with the latest in digital camera technology, even if you're not in the market, because eventually you will be shopping for a new shooter and the more you know the better prepared you'll be to make an informed decision.

TG just announced that this unnamed all-in-one PC is heading for a Stateside retail launch courtesy of Best Buy. There’s not a lot to go on here besides a few pics. Nevertheless, a DVD drive, 2x USB and what appears to be a slot for memory cards, mic and audio jacks, and dedicated multi-media buttons adorning the right-side edge. Around back we find Ethernet, a composite video input, and a few more unidentified jacks which might be Firewire and USB. The big mystery here is the price and availability. Then we’ll know whether this pup can take the legs out from under Dell, Apple, and even Gateway in the US, all-in-one desktop game. Backside-front pictured after the break.

Anyone that keeps tabs on which celebrity uses a Sidekick will know that Tony Hawk loves the Sidekick. The press release for the Sidekick II even quotes him:

“I can’t live without my Sidekick,” said skateboarding icon Tony Hawk. “I take it everywhere with me. It allows me to answer emails as they come in instead of coming home to 100 different messages.”

So it’s not too big of a surprise to hear rumors that he’s going to get his own Limited Edition Sidekick LX. We hope he’s still not stuck on the Sidekick II, but if so, this will be more than enough reason to upgrade.

No official word from T-Mobile on this yet, but rumor has it that the Tony Hawk Limited Edition Sidekick LX will launch on July 16th. This is perfect timing as it is 2 days before the first stop on Tony Hawk’s Boom Boom Huckjam presented by T-Mobile Sidekick. Yes, another event with a name just as long as the 50th Grammy Celebration Concert Tour presented by T-Mobile Sidekick. We’re not even sure of the color of this one yet, but as soon as we find out more info, we’ll let you know. What color do you think it should be?

PayPal has been asked by the IRS via court order to provide records regarding the use of offshore credit cards. The request is part of the IRS’s off shore compliance program.  Many members of the online gambling community are protesting the action, calling it violation of Internet privacy. PayPal was involved with online gambling from 2000-2001, but the IRS claims they are simply trying to bust tax evaders who failed to report offshore accounts. While the popular online payment system says they value their member’s privacy, they have agreed to turn over the records, saying they feel obligated to do so.

“In my opinion this is a huge breach of personal privacy - they should not be allowed to comb through citizens’ accounts on a fishing expedition for illegal activity,” one tax consultant told Gambling911.com, asking to remain anonymous.  “I have a feeling, that while they were only in the gambling industry for a year - information obtained from this sweep could be used to nail a lot of people on unclaimed income.”

The order came from the US District Court for the Northern District of California and was entitled “In The Matters of the Tax Liabilities of John Does.”

Recently, I have become fixated with devices that help you lose weight. Last week, it was the Tanita BC558. This week, the Seiko Slimstick, a more portable weight-loss device.

The Seiko Slimstick is a more advanced version of those old-school pedometers that can count your steps. Just between you and me, I always thought those step-counters were kind of useless. Their accuracy was highly questionable, as they would register a step if they were shaken. Not only that, what good is it to discover how many steps you’ve taken in a day? I suppose you could convert that to miles, but most exercise programs are based on burning calories, not miles.

The Slimstick is a more accurate pedometer that uses dual-axis accelerometers to track the magnitude of a user’s movements. It is easy-to-use as it clips to the user’s clothing, and is the size of a pack of gum. While on the user’s person, it can then count calories burned during the day, the amount of time a user was active, and, of course, the number of steps that were taken during the day.

The Seiko Slimstick is only available in Japan, for a price that is equivalent to $60-70 US Dollars. It can be purchased in silver, pink, or gold metal finishes. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a plan for an overseas campaign.
