Well, just as expected, Best Buy has added the Windows XP based Asus Eee PC to their website, albeit with a slightly misleading picture. The image shows the Eee PC clearly running the default Linux-based operating system, but if you dig down into the “Product Features” it clearly states that it has the “Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition operating system preinstalled.” Sadly there is no mention of the 4GB SD card that was rumored to be bundled with Eee. Aside from that, we will offer a bit of friendly advise, while Best Buy is kind of enough to suggest the Targus Slipskin Notebook Case, we will remind you that the Eee ships with a small slip cover of its own. Perhaps the best news is that the Windows XP based Eee PC retails at the same $399 price tag.

The developers behind Snapture, a new camera enhancement add-on for the iPhone, don’t pull any punches on the product site:

While the iPhone itself is a slick package, the fact of the matter is most of the Apple built apps are mediocre and overly simplistic - to point where features are sacrificed. It’s like buying a new sports car and driving it at the speed limit.

That’s a valid point, and the five authors of the software didn’t just complain: they did something about it. Snapture adds many new features that should have been built in. There’s burst mode which captures three frames in a row, a 3X digital zoom, a grayscale setting, proper 360º auto-rotation (for snapping pictures upside down), a level (which appears to use the iPhone’s accelerometers) and support for different image sizes.

Camera Pro, another iphone app, has offered these features for a while, but it costs $20. Snapture is free, and also has a much slicker looking website. You’ll need to have a jailbroken iPhone to run it. If you do, you’ll find Snapture in the Utilities section of the Installer application.

Looks like the Motorola booth had a red Sidekick Slide on display this year at CTIA 2008. No word yet on when it will hit market (if it even will). I know a lot of people quoted the purple color as being a reason they steered away from the Slide. In my personal opinion the red looks sexy, and I’d totally rock

It seems only fitting that after two weeks of feverish 3G iphone rumor mongering there would finally emerge a photo of this mythical device. This one was fed to the iPod Observer, and if there’s any merit to it, your 3G iPhone will be a shiny black little number, with a rear end clad in glossy black plastic instead of aluminum.

Based on the photo, the phone also appears to do away with the separate black plastic end piece that covers the antenna. Personally, I have to say it also looks suspiciously similar to Knight Creations’ customized TiAlN (Titanium Nitride/Titanium Aluminum Nitride) iPhones. And although Apple does include that black plastic end piece to help create a clear signal for the phone, I’m not convinced Apple would completely do away with aluminum.

So what’s the verdict, people: Pretty decent mock-up, obvious fake, or possibly the real deal?

My birthday’s in May, and already my loved ones are asking what I want. So I’ve got a moral dilemma. I don’t really need an audio player because I’ve got two perfectly good iPods. OTOH, they are elderly and not equipped for video. I really would like a handheld video player, and I would like to have usable handheld Internet access.

I don’t need an iphone because I adore my Centro, which combines a decent phone with the Palm PDA software that’s kept me in approximate order for years. It was also really, really cheap: $99 plus the inevitable 2-year contract. My adoration, however, doesn’t extend to the Centro’s screen, which is really, really tiny, no good for either videos or the Web.

An obvious solution is the iPod Touch. But here’s my moral dilemma: am I going to let my lust for an ipod Touch overpower my desire to keep my loved ones from spending $300-$500, depending on gigabytes?

Is the plural of thermos “thermoses” or “thermice”?

While you’re pondering that, allow me to introduce you to this fabulous new food thermos from Plastica. The AT&T Tilt has an admirer in the form of the Awang A9000 handset. This clone boasts a similar QWERTY keypad and overall design of the AT&T Tilt, featuring a microSD memory card slot, an integrated digital camera and in all probability, some sort of Windows Mobile operating system. I wonder how much this will cost, and will it ever fool anyone?

Wacom’s new high-end tablet, the Cintiq 12WX is one interesting tablet as you will be able to use it as a dual monitor and a tablet simultaneously, adding a previously unthought of dimension to a peripheral which we take for granted. All you need to do is press an express button on the top left hand corner of the 12WX, and the tablet automatically springs to life, being activated by turns. The users will then be free to work on a PC or the tablet, depending on their preference. It tips the scales at 1.8kg, making it suitable to work on the 12.1″ LCD panel wherever one goes. No idea on how much it costs nor when will it be released to the masses though.
